Hunterdon Hispanos is pleased to host a talk by Dr. Enrique Castillo - Ambassador of Costa Rica to the Organization of the American States

Dr. Castillo will be speaking about "The Organization of the American States and its roll in the Americas". The conference will be held at the Hunterdon Country Library Headquarters

The Organization of American States (OAS) brings together the nations of the Western Hemisphere to strengthen cooperation on democratic values, defend common interests and debate the major issues facing the region and the world. The OAS is the region’s principal multilateral forum for strengthening democracy, promoting human rights, and confronting shared problems such as poverty, terrorism, illegal drugs and corruption. The OAS reflects the rich diversity of the hemisphere’s peoples and cultures. It is made up of 35 member states: the independent nations of North, Central and South America and the Caribbean .

About Dr. Enrique Castillo

Dr. Enrique Castillo from Costa Rica he has served as:

• Ambassador to the O.A.S., Since October 2007-
• Adjunct Secretary General, International Association of Criminology, 1994-99.
• Minister of Justice of Costa Rica, 1994-95.
• Ambassador to France , 1986-90.
• Professor of Law, Universidad de Costa Rica, since 1971. "catedrático"(highest level in the teaching profession), 1986-2002
• Founder, first General Director and former General Director of the Postgraduate Law School at the Universidad de Costa Rica, 1981-86 and 1995-2002.
• Member of the Board of Directors of the United Nations Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (ILANUD), 1978-81.
• Judge (1970-71)

PUBLICATIONS

Books and articles on law and criminology published in Argentina, Mexico, New York (United Nations), Costa Rica, Panama, Peru, Spain and France.

OTHER INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES.

He has given lectures on international policy, law and criminology in Argentina , Austria , Bolivia , Brazil , Costa Rica , France , Mexico , Nicaragua , Panama and Spain , and he has attended many international seminars and congresses, sometimes as Costa Rican official representative.
